Train Ride to War

Author's Note

If you're reading history and one side seems like they're the good guys, you're reading a fairy tale or a Sunday school polemic, not reality. Humans are messy. So history is messy.

Peace does not happen until people start listening to each other and understanding each other. Building this sim taught me a lot about the history. The US was arrogant, had its own problems after WW2. Europe had dumped their fucked up colonies in our lap and asked us to keep them from going Red. Iran had systemic problems as well; the Shah was trying to modernize his country, change sucks.

If either side had understood the other, we wouldn't be where we are now; often it was good intentions that drove us towards war as much as bad intentions. Hindsight is 20/20.

Playing towards peace is trivial from both sides. It's hard to do from just one side. I don't let you play from both sides at once. That's life.

Is that a slightly cynical view? I'm Grumpy Tech Bro, not Happy Go Lucky Tech Bro. Deal with it.
